I looked forward to finishing the story but not because it was boring, just “meh”. Maybe I just can’t handle Swedish heroes? It was an effortless piece of fluff that probably was great at the time. What can I say? The book was written in 1982, it doesn’t have a story as pretty as Simple Jess and it just kinda plods along with no real hassle. Oh and her mum was a hooker – surprise surprise! Karl is a virgin from a good Swedish family but the story doesn’t go into it. I actually wondered at one point if he screwed the goat because he was so lonely for company but eShe can’t read or write, she isn’t Christian, she’s not 25, she can’t cook, she doesn’t like bathing, she hates cleaning and she’s not a virgin.

Before his mail order bride shows up with her brother (who Karl wasn’t aware of), he used to keep Nanna the goat inside the house during winter so he had someone to talk to. He also walks around with an axe most of the time and calls his brother-in-law “boy” more times than I can handle. Could Kyle Turley (footballer) be Karl’s lost twin?
